The fines and penalties of the New Jersey law of “Driving Without Insurance” varies depending on how many times the individual has violated this law.
- First offense:
· Fine of at least $300 and up to $1,000;
· Community service;
· DMV surcharges of $250 for three years; and
· Mandatory license suspension of one year.
- Second offense:
· Fine of at least $5,000
· Mandatory jail sentence of 14 days
· 30 days of community service
· License suspension for two years (in order to reinstate driving privileges, the violator must submit an application to the Director of the Division of Motor Vehicles for reinstatement)
